Thank you for visiting my site! I've been tuning and repairing pianos since 1986, and I belong to the Boston chapter of the Piano Technicians Guild. I am an aural tuner; I tune pianos completely by ear. Many tuners use electronic tuning devices, but I believe I get better results tuning aurally. I was a music teacher in the Newton, MA public schools from 1979 until my recent retirement, and I play double bass in local orchestras.
I would be happy to discuss your piano with you. I enjoy tuning and repairing pianos, and making them sound their best for fingers of all ages to play. My service area includes the following towns: Belmont, Brookline, Dedham, Dover, Framingham, Medfield, Natick, Needham, Newton, Norwood, Sherborn, Sudbury, Waltham, Watertown, Wayland, Wellesley, Weston, and Westwood. If you live in another town, I will refer you to a colleague in the Piano Technicians Guild who lives closer.
When should your piano be tuned? So much depends on your goals! Pianos respond quickly to changes in humidity, and here we have very dry winters and humid summers. Your piano will go out of tune whether it is played or not, and it should be tuned at least once a year.
Beyond that, if you play often, you will probably need to have your piano tuned twice a year. There is really no best time of year to do this, since our climate varies so much, but when the heat is turned on in the fall and turned off in the spring, your piano will probably respond quickly.
